IT Home reported on October 28 that Apple yesterday (October 27) introduced a new 24-inch iMac with an M6 chip, starting at 12,499 yuan. One notable change is that a 2.5Gb Ethernet port is available as an option.
Unlike previous models, which had the Ethernet port built into the computer, the new iMac integrates the port into its accompanying power adapter. Customers who select the option at purchase can use the power cable for both power and a wired network connection.
According to IT Home's check of Apple's China website, the standard M6 iMac (with 2 Thunderbolt ports, a 10-core CPU, a 10-core GPU, and dual 16-core Neural Engines) does not include the 2.5Gb Ethernet port by default; customers can add it for 200 yuan.
The higher-spec model with a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, however, includes 2.5Gb Ethernet as standard at no extra cost. It starts at 13,999 yuan.
Technology publication MacRumors noted that whether the upgrade is worth the extra cost for ordinary users depends on their circumstances. A built-in 2.5Gb Ethernet port may be more convenient for those who already have a network faster than gigabit at home or in the office, need a stable, low-latency connection, or frequently transfer large amounts of data.
