IT Home reported on October 30 that Google is gradually discontinuing its AI coding assistant Jules. The company launched Jules in December 2024, positioning it as a tool that could handle coding work “you don’t want to do.” Now, however, Jules is about to shut down.
Google said it would apply what it learned from the tool to its AI coding platform Antigravity.
The following is a statement posted by the official Jules account on X:
When we launched Jules, it was an experiment to understand how asynchronous coding agents could help developers ship faster. Seeing what you built with it gave us deep insight into the future of agentic development and directly influenced several products across Google.
We’re working to bring what we learned from Jules into Antigravity, so users can have the best of both: autonomous background tasks running in a remote environment and an agent-centered development environment.
As we shift our focus to building a unified experience, Jules will gradually cease operations.
Whether you used Jules to squash bugs, write tests, or ship features — thank you for shaping the future of agentic coding.
According to IT Home, Antigravity is an “agent-first” development platform launched by Google DeepMind on November 18, 2025. It is a next-generation integrated development environment for developers, distributed as a standalone downloadable IDE forked from VS Code, with support for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Built around an “agent-first” design philosophy, the platform aims to enable AI to autonomously plan, execute, verify, and iterate on complex software engineering tasks.
