IT Home reported on October 27 that, according to a report yesterday by technology outlet MacRumors, Apple has added SynthID to iOS 27.2. Images generated with Image Playground, as well as some images edited with Apple Intelligence, now carry hidden watermarks.

According to the outlet’s tests, images processed using “Expand” and “Reframe” in the Photos app were both identified as AI-generated when checked. Whether the “Clean Up” feature adds a watermark appears to depend on the extent of the edits. Images with minor changes do not receive a watermark, while images with more extensive changes carry a SynthID watermark. All images created with Image Playground carry a SynthID watermark.
