IT Home reported on October 30 that French company Mistral AI officially released the model weights for Mistral Large 4 (ML4 for short, codenamed le Chonk) on October 29 local time.
ML4 is a natively multimodal model with 1 trillion total parameters and 49 billion active parameters (52 billion including the embedding and output layers). It was trained from scratch using 3,800 NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GPUs in Mistral's own data center in Europe.
Mistral said that, following real-world testing with government and enterprise users, this release has been optimized and upgraded for performance compared with the initial version announced three weeks ago.
The company said the model scored 48% on the Artificial Analysis Coding Agent Index, roughly matching the leading open-source model GLM-5.3, while using 47% fewer tokens per task on average.
For online use, the model is priced at $0.70 per million input tokens (IT Home note: approximately 4.7 yuan at the current exchange rate), $0.07 per million cached input tokens (approximately 0.47 yuan at the current exchange rate), and $2.10 per million output tokens (approximately 14 yuan at the current exchange rate).
The model is released under a modified MIT license that permits free personal and academic use, modification, fine-tuning, and ordinary commercial use. Cloud service providers and vendors that offer MaaS for resale must obtain a separate commercial license from Mistral before using it commercially.
