IT Home reported on November 7 that Baidu Maps officially announced today the launch of a new HarmonyOS-exclusive indoor navigation feature.
According to Baidu Maps, its HarmonyOS-exclusive indoor navigation feature is based on Huawei's Xingji positioning technology and can precisely locate a destination, from entering a mall to finding a store. The initial rollout covers 106 large commercial complexes and popular malls in 22 cities across China. It supports automatic floor switching and helps users find entrances and take elevators without switching between indoor and outdoor navigation.
As IT Home previously reported, on October 12 this year, at a Huawei Terminal innovation technology briefing, Li Xiaolong, CTO of Huawei Terminal BG and head of the Hardware Engineering and Product Development Management Department of Huawei Terminal BG, shared the key highlights of Huawei's Xingji positioning technology.
Li Xiaolong said that as use cases have expanded to tunnels, running, underground parking garages, skiing, indoor spaces, elevated roads and sports fields, traditional positioning technology can no longer meet consumers' needs in complex settings. Huawei therefore debuted its Xingji positioning technology.
To address the difficulty of changing lanes in time when driving on elevated roads without high-precision navigation, Huawei uses a HiSilicon short-range chip and GNSS carrier-phase measurements to improve ranging accuracy by more than 10 times. Huawei's Xingji positioning technology can achieve sub-meter positioning accuracy for lane-level navigation. Through the integration of RTK and AI-PDR, Huawei Mate 90 series phones are the first to support running-track-level navigation on sports fields.
To address the difficulty of finding stores while shopping in malls, Li Xiaolong said Huawei and its partners have brought LBS location services into indoor commercial spaces. Huawei's Xingji positioning technology currently supports 500,000 commercial-area geofences and 17,000 buildings with indoor positioning. Store-level mall navigation in Huawei Petal Maps already supports more than 260 malls, with more than 200 expected to be added each month in the future.
