IT Home reported on October 26 that, according to Counterpoint Research, Apple's MacBook Pro laptops are expected to switch to OLED screens, accelerating the contraction of the Mini LED laptop panel market. Annual shipments of Mini LED laptop panels are expected to fall by around 75% between 2025 and 2027.
IT Home noted that Apple has used Mini LED panels in the MacBook Pro since 2021. However, Counterpoint predicts that shipments of laptops with Mini LED panels will decline by 38% in 2026 and a further 60% in 2027. Meanwhile, OLED laptop panels are set to grow. The firm expects shipments of OLED laptop panels to rise by 50% this year and another 24% next year, for a cumulative increase of 86% over 2025. Counterpoint also believes demand for OLED MacBook Pros and high-end AI PCs will be the main drivers of growth for these panels, although the overall laptop display panel market is expected to contract by 3% in 2026.
Counterpoint believes OLED panels offer the advantages of being thinner and delivering better image quality, while their cost competitiveness continues to improve, prompting computer manufacturers to adopt OLED technology more quickly. Tandem OLED designs and production facilities with greater capacity will further drive market growth.
