IT Home reported on October 27 that autonomous driving technology company WeRide announced today the launch of a global insurance partnership program, with Allianz Insurance Singapore and Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance as its first partners.

IT Home learned from the company's official introduction that the global insurance partnership program covers WeRide's existing operations in China, Southeast Asia and the Middle East, and supports services soon to be launched in additional markets, including Europe. Drawing on the partners' insurance expertise in international and Chinese markets, the parties will jointly develop customized insurance plans covering the entire operational life cycle of L4 autonomous vehicles, in line with local regulatory requirements and operational needs. These will include motor vehicle liability insurance, commercial general liability insurance and product liability insurance, as well as coverage for privacy and cybersecurity risks.

Allianz Insurance is Singapore's third-largest motor insurer and the first insurer in Singapore to cover fully driverless vehicles. Allianz Insurance subsequently extended its coverage to Robotaxis, supporting the Ai.R autonomous shuttle service that WeRide launched with Grab in Punggol.

Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance is China's second-largest property insurer. WeRide and Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance are jointly developing Robotaxi insurance plans that meet regulatory requirements in China and the Middle East, providing coverage for fully driverless commercial operations in four cities: Beijing, Guangzhou, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The coverage extends to Robotaxi rides offered through WeRide's own "WeRide Go" platform and third-party platforms including Uber and TXAI.

According to WeRide, its autonomous driving operations currently span 13 countries and more than 60 cities. It has one of the world's largest autonomous vehicle fleets, with approximately 3,600 L4 autonomous vehicles in total, including more than 1,800 Robotaxis.
