IT Home reported on November 8 that on November 5, Sony (China) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “Sony”) made the global debut of “Semantic Smart Mobility,” a see-through connected-vehicle warning system, at the 9th China International Import Expo.
According to the introduction, at intersections or on roads crowded with vehicles, pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles obscured by buildings or vehicles ahead are often difficult for drivers to see directly, while general risk alerts also do little to explain where a hazard is coming from. Sony’s “Semantic Smart Mobility” (see-through connected-vehicle warning system), which made its global debut at the 8th China International Import Expo, has now been further developed for in-vehicle use.
IT Home learned at an official briefing that the system uses semantic communication technology to present obscured road information as intuitive images on an in-vehicle screen: roadside equipment detects pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles, extracts and transmits key semantic information, and the vehicle then reconstructs the images, helping drivers understand the source of a risk and react in advance.
A simulated cockpit at the event demonstrated the process: when someone walked behind a wall of greenery ahead, the in-vehicle screen displayed the obscured pedestrian in real time, giving visitors a clear view of how the system issues warnings.
Since its debut, Sony’s research and development team has reduced computing demands and processing latency by making the model more lightweight, allowing the system to be deployed on general-purpose in-vehicle computing platforms. The system can also adjust the amount of information transmitted according to communication conditions to accommodate different network environments. Through semantic transmission technology, it extracts and transmits core traffic information so that it fits the bandwidth constraints of domestic connected-vehicle standards; joint testing with the communications unit (TCU) product of a domestic commercial vehicle has now been completed.
