On October 21, the 2026 World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference opened in Beijing. Zhao Fei, general manager of China Changan Automobile Group Co., Ltd. and chairman of Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd., attended and delivered a keynote speech titled “AI Empowerment, Digital Intelligence and Connectivity: Building a New Automotive Industry Ecosystem Together.”
Regarding global trends in the development of intelligent connected vehicles, Zhao Fei offered 2 assessments:
First, in the field of on-device physical AI, automobiles will become the platform with the earliest deployment, the fastest rise in adoption, and the largest scale of application. In the first month after the Changan Qiyuan Q06 went on sale, the urban navigation version accounted for nearly 50% of orders. The industry is expected to achieve mass production of L3 vehicles in 2027 and commercial L4 operations in 2028.
Second, automobiles are expanding toward an integrated land, sea and air mobility ecosystem, opening up new room for growth in the industry.
Discussing changes in the industry, Zhao Fei shared China Changan Automobile’s “1 body, 3 domains” AI transformation strategy.
Launch an AI product initiative to build differentiated competitiveness through AI-defined vehicles. Changan has established the country’s only National Key Laboratory for Intelligent Vehicle Safety Technology, the Tianshu Intelligent Laboratory Center, which it describes as internationally leading. It also holds the country’s first official dedicated license plate for L3 autonomous driving and a Chongqing test permit for L4 driverless taxis. Its self-developed, single-stage end-to-end driving assistance system, “Changan Tianshu Navigation,” officially entered mass production and was installed in vehicles this year. With safety at its core, it connects 6 major areas—the cabin, driving, powertrain, chassis, control and cloud—and integrates in-house software and hardware development in core areas to provide users with a smooth, reliable driving and riding experience.
Launch an AI intelligent manufacturing initiative, building a smart manufacturing matrix of “1 set of global cloud applications + N local factory applications” to make a comprehensive transition to modern manufacturing.
Launch an AI operations initiative to move the organization from “human-machine collaboration” toward “carbon-silicon symbiosis.” Cycles of AI-assisted decision-making and autonomous execution have already been achieved in multiple areas.
Zhao Fei emphasized that safety is the fundamental prerequisite for the development of intelligent connected vehicles and an inviolable bottom line. Changan has built a multidimensional safety system and has participated in formulating more than 360 international, national and industry standards. Finally, Zhao Fei called on peers across the global industry to establish a consensus on development with safety as its bottom line, strictly comply with laws, regulations and regulatory requirements, and reject false advertising and “pseudo-innovation.”
At the conference, China Changan Automobile also set up a dedicated area for visitors to experience production vehicles equipped with Tianshu Navigation. Through real-road test drives of the Qiyuan Q06, it showcased the technical capabilities of Changan Tianshu Navigation, the first single-stage end-to-end intelligent driving assistance system independently developed by a centrally administered state-owned enterprise. Numerous international guests, industry experts and prominent media figures came to try it and praised Tianshu Navigation’s intelligent, safe and smooth performance.
