IT Home reported on November 1 that Qt has announced Clate, an interface design tool for embedded devices. Designers can use a visual editor or AI to generate user interfaces without writing code, then export their designs as QML code for engineers to integrate into Qt applications. The first beta version, 0.6, is now available to download and use for free. IT Home provides the project link (https://doc.qt.io/clate/docs/release-notes/clate-0-6/).
IT Home has learned that Clate is built on Qt Quick and is primarily intended for designing human-machine interfaces (HMIs) for industrial equipment, medical instruments and consumer electronics. Designers can adjust the position, size, color and gradient effects of individual objects and preview their designs in a separate window. Any graphics, text, images and other elements they create on the canvas are mapped in the background to QML, Qt's declarative interface language. Engineers can then import these files into Qt 6.12 and add interaction logic and data processing functions.
Clate also includes a chat-based AI assistant. Designers can use natural-language instructions to ask the AI to create interfaces or modify design elements. The first beta version connects to Anthropic's Claude Agent through ACP (Agent Client Protocol), and users need to sign in with their own Claude accounts.
Clate 0.6 is still in testing and does not yet support reusable design components or data binding. Qt plans to add support for variables and data binding in 2026, followed by animation editing, design system management and real-time collaboration among multiple users in spring 2027. The commercial release of Clate is expected in summer 2027.
