IT Home reported on October 30 that, in the official release of iOS 27.2 rolled out this week, Apple updated apps including Siri AI, FaceTime and Messages, further expanded Shortcuts actions, and added an automation trigger for its first foldable iPhone Duo.
Citing a blog post, IT Home said the most notable addition among the expanded actions lets users set specified operations to run automatically “when my iPhone opens or closes,” making the folding and unfolding of the device an entry point for smart scenarios.
In practice, users can integrate the iPhone Duo more naturally into their daily routines. For example, unfolding the phone could automatically open frequently used apps, turn on a Focus mode or play music; folding it could turn off the screen, pause a task or send a reminder.
Shortcuts in iOS 27.2 also expands workout automation. Users can now set “when I start a workout” to work with fitness apps on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS, making it easier to automatically start recording, play a playlist or send a notification when exercise begins.
App automation is also smarter. Previously, conditions such as “when the Weather app opens or closes” could trigger actions; after this update, the system can provide Shortcuts with the specific name of the app that was closed, enabling more precise follow-up operations.
For AI features, the “Use Model” action has gained multilingual support for retrieving the latest information online, covering French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish; previously, the feature was available only in English.
The editing experience has also improved. On iPhone and iPad, users can now change names and icons directly in the Shortcuts library without entering the editing page; on Mac, they can adjust the window layout through the “Show Actions” and “Show Shortcut Description” menus.
