IT Home reported on October 30 that Meta has quietly launched Style Sketch, an AI outfit planning app that lets users put together outfits using clothes they already own. The app can connect to Instagram and generate a virtual wardrobe from photos users have posted. Users can also add clothes manually by taking photos, recording short videos, or uploading images from their photo albums.

Style Sketch then recommends outfit combinations based on the clothes in the wardrobe and the user's style preferences. According to the app description, users can also try on these outfits on a “realistic virtual model that matches their body shape and skin tone.”

The app is currently available in Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand on iOS and Android. It is not yet clear whether Meta plans to launch Style Sketch in more regions.

Many AI apps already help users digitize their wardrobes and preview new outfits, including products from startups such as Alta. Even Google Photos offers a related tool that lets users turn photos of their clothes into a digital wardrobe and plan outfits there.

To compete in an existing market, Meta is unlikely to rely on the idea alone. It will probably focus on the app's integration with Instagram, where many users have already saved extensive visual records of their personal style.

According to the app description, Style Sketch does not recommend outfits at random. Users can select an item in their wardrobe to get fresh outfit ideas built around it.

The app can also help users plan outfits for trips. After users enter their destination, trip length, and planned activities, it draws on the weather forecast and itinerary to suggest outfits for each day.

IT Home noted that Style Sketch is one of several AI apps Meta has launched in recent months. The company recently launched Waddle World, which is essentially an AI-powered Tamagotchi-style virtual pet. Meta has also launched Pocket for developing stylized games and Vibes for quickly generating AI videos.

This batch of new apps is part of Meta's strategy to launch apps on a large scale. The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this year that CEO Mark Zuckerberg told employees that AI had greatly improved development efficiency, substantially reducing the time and effort needed to launch new products, and that the company planned to release far more standalone apps than before.
