Sam Altman says energy may dominate the cost of expanding AI supplyMachine translation

AI introduction

At the ADIPEC opening ceremony in Abu Dhabi, Sam Altman said more efficient models and improvements to chip fabrication could cut AI costs, while the physical world that powers AI remains a constraint. He expects energy to dominate future costs and supply, and estimated that energy use per query has fallen by thousands to hundreds of thousands of times over the past three or four years.

Energy is the biggest challenge because "atoms are still atoms" - Sam Altman, at the ADIPEC opening ceremony in Abu Dhabi. "Everything else we're going to make huge progress on. We're going to make more efficient models. We're going to have robots that can make chip fabs more efficient and assemble racks for us. We can bring down the cost of delivering great AI in almost every way except, atoms are still atoms and the physical world that has to power this. That's going to be, I think, the very dominant factor of the cost and the abundance and how much we can create." ---- Full video on "DWS News" YouTube channel, (link in comment)

The energy cost of each AI query has dropped 1,000x to 100,000x in 3 to 4 years - Sam Altman, at the ADIPEC opening ceremony in Abu Dhabi. "On one hand, the energy per query is falling incredibly dramatically. We're just delivering huge efficiency gains. We're thousands or hundreds of thousands of times maybe more efficient than we were three or four years ago." ---- Full video on "DWS News" YouTube channel, (link in comment)
