IT Home reported on November 3, citing CCTV News, that Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning hosted a regular press conference on November 3.

A reporter asked: The 2026 World Internet Conference has just opened in Wuzhen. This year's theme is “Open Source and Openness, Joint Development and Sharing — Working Together to Build a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace.” Discussions focus on cutting-edge issues in the digital and intelligent era, particularly practices in artificial intelligence development and approaches to governance. Could China provide further details? The AI era also brings risks such as technology misuse, the digital divide and the over-securitization of issues. How does China view these risks?

In response, Mao Ning said that although technology is developing rapidly, a major question of widespread concern has remained unchanged: how to make the internet better serve humanity. The ultimate purpose of internet development is to promote people's all-round development, which requires a stronger emphasis on people-centered values. Internet technology should enhance people's capabilities, expand their choices, affirm their value and improve their well-being. People must not become subordinate to technology, and technology must certainly not deepen divisions in human development.

As the international community works together to build a community with a shared future in cyberspace, it should use technology to empower people and open up new space for development. China will continue to pursue innovation with its doors open, promote technology transfer and knowledge sharing, and work with other countries to build an open, inclusive and dynamic digital innovation ecosystem.

IT Home learned from official information that this year's Wuzhen Summit will feature 27 subforums discussing topics including cyberspace cooperation under the Global Governance Initiative, theories and policies for the digital and intelligent era, and robotics and embodied intelligence.

The main forum will include an “AI Wuzhen Dialogue” session, bringing together executives from leading global technology companies and prominent open-source large-model companies, as well as AI scientists, to discuss topics including the development of a global open-source AI ecosystem.

The call for practical case studies on “Working Together to Build a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace” received 360 submissions from 80 countries and regions worldwide, including 22 countries and regions participating for the first time.

The World Internet Conference Leading Science and Technology Award received more than 430 scientific and technological achievements from 43 countries and regions. Of these, 18 countries and regions participated for the first time, and the number of international submissions rose 21% from last year.

According to official information, the “Light of Internet” Expo has the theme “Intelligent Connectivity, Envisioning the Future” and has so far invited more than 400 companies to exhibit. In addition, the “Straight to Wuzhen” Global Internet Competition will undergo a comprehensive upgrade, with 5 tracks—digital and intelligent healthcare, intelligent connected mobility, smart terminals, intelligent manufacturing and new consumption—2 scenario competitions, new mobility and AI+ manufacturing, and 2 special competitions, the Open Source Challenge and OPC.

The 2026 World Internet Conference Outstanding Contribution Awards cover nearly 20 countries and regions and multiple fields, including artificial intelligence, information and communications, robotics, and healthcare.

The World Internet Conference's “Global Youth Leaders Program” attracted applications from more than 2,600 outstanding young people in over 140 countries and regions worldwide, a significant increase over previous years.
