IT Home reported on October 21 that, in an interview with technology outlet The Verge this month, Apple's vice president of home product marketing, Kaiann Drance, said the company's first smart home hub, HomeView, is more than a collection of features: its “killer feature” is a simple experience and Siri AI.
Drance said that, with Siri AI, HomeView can bring together household devices and everyday tasks in a way “never before possible.” Apple's vice president of AI product marketing, Lilian Rincon, further explained that users can give instructions in more natural, everyday language without memorizing set commands or complicated sequences of steps. They can simply make requests, such as adjusting the thermostat.
Citing a blog post, IT Home explained that, compared with the iPhone and iPad, HomeView's core value is that it is “always available.” It stays in the same place at home, remains powered on and requires no unlocking. Family members can approach it to control lights, air conditioning and security cameras or check their schedules. It can also serve as an Apple Home control center and, for the first time, support easy switching between users.
Rincon emphasized that Apple does not want Siri to become an AI companion that “chats for the sake of chatting.” She said many voice assistants keep asking users follow-up questions to get more information, while Siri AI aims to understand what users need, carry out the task directly, show the necessary information and then “get out of the user's way.”
HomeView faces some practical limitations, however. The device is not expected to officially ship until November 13, 2026. Its screen is small, and it cannot run apps directly; watching content such as Apple TV still requires using AirPlay from an iPhone. Reports say Apple is already developing a successor with a larger display.
