IT Home reported on October 25, citing Jimu News, that a project to build a high-quality brain-computer interface dataset, led by Tongji Hospital affiliated with Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, was officially launched in Wuhan on the 24th.

According to the construction plan, the project is scheduled to be completed and put into use in 2027. It will focus on 10 disease areas: stroke rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, disorders of consciousness, intractable pain, facial paralysis, speech dysfunction, movement disorders, and gastrointestinal neuromodulation, covering the main clinical applications of neuromodulation and functional reconstruction.

Aimed at addressing fragmented data, the project will build a high-quality brain-computer interface database that China can independently control, following standards for broad coverage, comprehensive data modalities, and an integrated data pipeline.

According to previous IT Home reports, earlier this month the International Organization for Standardization (ISO / IEC) published an international standard for brain-computer interface reference architecture led by China: “Information Technology — Brain-Computer Interface Reference Architecture.”

Experts from China served as project leaders for the international standard and developed it jointly with experts from Italy, South Korea, the United Kingdom, India, the United States, Japan, Sweden, Finland, Australia, Germany, and other countries. It is another significant achievement for China in the international standardization of brain-computer interfaces.

In addition, in September this year, the National Medical Products Administration approved the publication of China’s third standard for brain-computer interface medical devices. It is the world’s first product standard for brain-computer interface medical devices that use artificial intelligence to process electroencephalogram data. The new standard will officially take effect on September 1 next year.
