Terence Tao says AI is prompting mathematicians to keep research ideas privateMachine translation

AI introduction

Terence Tao says some mathematicians are withholding problems they once shared openly, fearing others could feed their ideas into a frontier model and publish first. He also warns that AI can exploit weaknesses in theoretical models to produce answers that pass the model without solving the underlying problem.

Terence Tao, on AI solutions that pass the model by exploiting its weak spots. He sees a good chance people will do the same thing there as in pure math: enter prompts with no understanding of what is going on. In his words, “AIs are much better at cheating,” and at finding exploits inside a theoretical model. ---- Full video on "SAIR" YouTube channel, (link in comment)

Mathematicians are now hiding their research ideas out of fear of AI 😀 ~ Terence Tao "now, mathematicians are hiding their problems. they used to share very openly all their promising research directions and now they're afraid that if you do that, someone with an AI will input their research ideas into a frontier model and rush out some people before they can finish their work." ---- Full video on "SAIR" YouTube channel, (link in comment)
