Government-linked sovereign funds have approached Perplexity to run its agent product entirely on hardware they own, with Perplexity fully locked out of their data.
The trade-off is that Perplexity cannot see bugs or learn from usage and can only push software updates, but the customer gets complete control and trust.

He credits the agent boom. Agents that do real computer work need web search, a browser, and a system that switches between many AI models, and Perplexity already had all 3 pieces built before the demand arrived.
