Tesla and Samsung Electro-Mechanics reportedly sign AI chip substrate supply agreement

TrendForce reports that Tesla and Samsung Electro-Mechanics signed a five-year FC-BGA substrate supply agreement. The substrates are expected to be used in AI chips for Tesla electric vehicles and Optimus humanoid robots, while Tesla will provide about 1.1 trillion won to fund capacity expansion. Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ Sejong plant is expected to begin mass production in the second half of 2028 and deliveries in 2029. Nvidia also plans to raise total IC substrate capacity to 2.5 times its current level over three years through supply agreements and has prepaid IBIDEN to reserve capacity.
