Toyota plans to deploy 400,000 robots for factory automation

Toyota plans to deploy 400,000 robots and spend $6.4 billion a year on factory automation, with about 250,000 robots intended for group companies and suppliers. Walden Robotics, spun out of Toyota’s AI robotics business, has raised $300 million, and its general-purpose robots are already in Toyota’s North American factories. Hyundai plans to produce Atlas humanoid robots in 2028; Tesla’s Optimus is in trial production but has not reached mass production.
